I started stitching a little over a year ago and quickly became obsessed.
I needed a way to slow down my mind when anxiety flooded it with noise. The methodical back and forth was a place of comfort.
My first few pieces were pretty shocking, wonky stitches, tangled threads, not pretty. But, after a lot of practice, I got better. There are still so many techniques I want to learn.
So, here are some of my favourite hoops I've stitched!
1. Sophie and Calcifer
This is my favourite hoop by far! It's also the one I made for myself. Howl's Moving Castle is my favourite Ghibli film and one of my all time favourite films. This was the first hoop I practiced satin stitch. Not the neatest I've ever done but definitely getting there. For the outline I used a single thread whipped backstitch (my favourite).
2. Medusa
This was one of the first pattern designs I created. I love it but, this design took me so long. I used a single thread long and short stitch for the hair and snakes. I wish I'd continued to use this stitch on her face as well. The satin stitch just doesn't seem to work that well.
3. Sloth
I stitched this cute sloth for my lovely friend. I sketched the pattern about 10 times, looking at hundreds of baby sloth pictures. I wanted to get the face just right and I'm so happy with how it turned out.
4. Wildflower Name Hoops
I was commissioned to create two name hoops for two little girls. The customer wanted the names to be surrounded by wildflowers and in mustard and autumnal tones. I used a split stitch on the names and love how they turned out.
5. Autumn Leaves
My friend asked me to stitch her an autumnal leafy hoop for her new house. We came up with the design together. I love the simplicity of the design.
6. Alien Abduction
And last but not least: the alien abduction. This mini hoop brings a smile to my face whenever I see it. It was super fiddly to stitch but well worth it!
So, those are my favourite hoops! Which one is your favourite?
